The Return of Demons or: our incredible journey is only just beginning (D.J. Trump)

Figure 1-5 show an almost circular Sumerian terracotta plaque, dating to late third and early second millennium BCE.

It was made of light clay, showing the disembodied demonic head of Humbaba.

Humbaba makes his first appearance in the ancient Near East in earlier Sumerian texts of what would later eventually become the epic of Gilgamesh.

Humbaba was the guardian of the Cedar Forest, where the gods lived, by the will of the god Enlil, who assigned Humbaba as a terror to human beings.

According to the Epics, Gilgamesh and his friend Enkidu “defeated this great enemy", by violent decapitation, after Humbaba nearly stops Gilgamesh and Enkidu from achieving their goal of felling the great forest in which he lived.

Terracotta plaques are by far the largest segment of the corpus of Humbaba images, currently known. By far the largest group of plaques shows the disembodied head type. The decapitated Demon usually has a broad nose, waking eyes filled with strong eyelids and deep wrinkles under the eyes. The mouth is presented as a marked broad grimace and shows the mighty teeth bared in agony.

Such items can be interpreted as visual narratives representing a key moment in the epic; as apotropaic images displayed to guard transitions; and as important omens recorded in the past, which had the potential to reappear in the present (Graff 2013)

After replacing the Mythos by Logos, we replaced Heroes, Demons and Gods by a predominantly structuralist narrative about the course of history.

But sometimes we feel that the evil spirits return and neither Heroes or Gods intervene and may stop them. Demons have to go their way until their glorious or bitter end-

Two day ago such a demon played his tricks….

"We're going to walk down to the Capitol. We’re going to walk down and I’ll be there with you. And we're gonna cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women… (the real Donald J Trump on 6th of January 2021).

His Supporters, a chaotic Mob followed en masse to this incitement to violence. What happened afterwards makes me sad and angry.

Americans freed Western Europe from Nazi terror. However, they probably would not have achieved this goal without the fighting of the Soviet Union

This will never be forgotten and was the most important event in history.

"Re-Education", although on a very rudimentary basis in Austria, during the late 1960ies helped me to emancipate from the National Socialist academic milieu in which I grew up.

Anyhow, National Socialist ideology only hibernated in people's hearts and heads, as in the minds of their descendants. This ideology is now experiencing a real rebirth - worldwide- and for no good reason - see 2047 .

The recurring mantra , both used in the US and Central Europe, that democratic societies are now divided by populism is unfortunately only an incomplete diagnosis and not even a rudimentary explanation.
