Large Geometric Sickle Segment from Israel

This is a large geometric sickle segments with gloss and heavy serration from the early Middle Bronze Age of Israel, dated to the beginning of the 2th Millennium BC.

As already shown in an earlier post -Here: 1009 such sickles are characterized by their blade-flake technology and proximal / distal truncations.

Until now, primary workshops have not been found and therefore the chaine operatoire of these tools remains unclear. Although many of these artifacts may have served as threshing sledges, several complete composite sickles with heavy serrated sickle segments show that at least some of these geometric segments were indeed used as sickle teeth
