About this Blog

Aggsbachs Paleolithic Blog (earlier known as Jean Luc Katzmans Archaeological Blog) is online since 2010 and follows the scientific progress in Paleolithic (and Neolithic) Prehistory.

The cordiform Biface, shown here, was found in 1923 and is part of my collection since 1983.

The Posts are focused on lithic findings made between 1860 and 1973 in Europe, the Middle East, Northern Asia and Africa. They mainly come from old collections of my own and some French families. A minority were acquired during legal auctions.

An important part of the artifacts are gifts from people who read and support my blog by extraordinary items usually found decennia ago: For example 1657 or 1068 - Thank you!- I always try my best to bring them into context again.

The Posts have a rather essayistic character or refer to specific themes of my own interest.—„Stories are told. Reality is like a quarry from which these stories are broken. It's like shining a flashlight into a dark room." (Friedrich Dürrenmatt).

The Paleolithic was simply always my "Zeitvertreib" (Pastime) since I was 15 years old and after having read a few popular science books, especially those of G. Bibby and G Heberer about the History of Prehistory and Paleoanthropology.

My Posts are updated from time to time (go to >>sort order>>revised in the Blog menue). They should not be misunderstood as original work.
